Launceston comedian Andy Collings has compiled a collection of some of the country’s freshest funnymen and women for what will be the first instalment of You Saw ‘Em Here First, a project seeking to establish Tasmanian acts and bring up-and-coming interstate acts to Launceston for the first time.
First up on the bill is Melbourne comedian Wei, who will take the stage alongside Tasmanian trio Ashlee Cairns, Daniel Walker and Doug Schindler at Saint John Craft Beer on Wednesday night.
“He was doing the Melbourne International Comedy Festival after-party shows and I saw him there,” Collings said.
“That was a really raucous room, a massive crowd all talking, a lot of background noise and heckling, and a lot of experienced comedians were coming up to me afterwards and saying ‘I really died there, that was really tough’.
“And this kid Wei just came on and absolutely nailed it, the crowd was eating out of his hand.”
The first instalment of You Saw ‘Em Here First will be held at Saint John Craft Beer at 8pm on Wednesday, with more shows likely to follow in the future.
Tickets are $10 through Eventbrite or $15 at the door.
