The Brisbane-native comedian is having a whirlwind of a year, having finished a run of Australian comedy festivals.
She’s also written for television, working on Matt Okine’s upcoming show for Stan, and Josh Thomas’ much-loved ABC series Please Like Me.
Now, she’s in the midst of cleaning up her shows for an upcoming appearance at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Lucas said the prospect of the jaunt to the world’s largest arts festival was “terrifying”.
Part of the preparation process is Edinburgh-afying her skits – making it English-friendly.
“It’s just little things … [friend and comedian Nick Cody] has jokes about bogans in Thailand,” Lucas said.
“Thailand is known in Australia as a place where a lot of bogans go for a holiday, but for British people it’s quite exotic.
“They don’t really have that connotation with Thailand. I guess theirs’ is like Ibiza, or something.
“My friends have had to change little things – like they don’t have ibises there, so they had to change a bird in the joke to a seagull.”
One thing that’s evident about Lucas in life, and in her comedy, is her fluidity and quick-wit.
“Everyone is talking about ibis. I was always quite fascinated by them, because there's a lot of them in Birsbane and I’m from Brisbane originally,” she continued.
“But then I got over them. They look like a homeless flamingo.”
Lucas will be debuting her unique brand of stand-up in Launceston this weekend, when she headlines Fresh Comedy on Friday night.
She said the show would be a mix of her “best stuff”, with a bit from her recent show Little Bitch.
But it’s not yet known if Lucas will be trying to recreate her home comforts in Tasmania.
“My roommates and I have just put a mattress on the floor, so we’re just, like junkies,” Lucas said.
“We watch movies and order food, which is pretty good. You feel pretty scummy, though.”
Catch Lucas with Fresh Comedy at the Royal Oak Hotel on Friday, from 8.30pm.
Tickets start at $15, from trybooking.com.
