Wednesday marked the Southern Hemisphere’s shortest day and longest night of the year, which means spring is almost in sight.
Some in Launceston chose to spend the evening at a solstice ceremony at Satsang Yoga.
The ceremony included a “healing circle”, yoga nidra, which is a type of meditation, a gentle yoga practice, and healing food.
“It’s a minuscule difference in the length of the day but it actually does make a big difference,” studio owner Kinga Kielar-Coe said.
“We’re connected to the seasons more than we realise.
“Hopefully everyone will get a wonderful night sleep and wake up truly ready for spring.”
Colour therapist Dee Arnold also worked with people during the ceremony.
“The solstice is such a wonderful time,” she said.
“It’s a natural time of the year when we want to go into our cave because of the cold and dark, but we’re also looking towards spring.”
