In April it was announced that he would step down from his role at the end of June.
Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten said Mr Dobrzynski was asked to stay to ensure the organisation continued to have “solid strategic oversight” of various projects.
“There are also some $86 million worth of capital works on our books over the coming 18 months and we need a firm hand on the tiller until a new candidate can be appointed to the role and brought up to speed,” Ald van Zetten said.
“We're pleased that Robert has agreed, and hope we'll be in a position to announce a new general manager in the near future.”
Recruiting for a general manager was a big task given the strategic nature of the role and the various challenges and responsibilities that come with it, the mayor said.
“We've advertised across Australia in our quest to find someone who can fill Robert's shoes and there are some great candidates out there.”
Meanwhile, the George Town Council has launched its recruitment campaign for a new general manager following the resignation of John Martin in May.
Mayor Bridget Archer said each of the elected members had come together to decide what type of applicant they were searching for when advertising the role.
“It’s a nation-wide search and we have engaged McArthur to conduct the recruitment process,” she said.
According to the position description, the council are seeking someone decisive and engaging to lead the organisation though a significant period of operational and cultural change.
The council also hopes the new recruit will be comfortable navigating the industry wide reform pressures and be eager to work collaboratively with neighbouring councils and the community.
Former general manager for the Flinders Council, Raoul Harper, has been acting in the general manager role where he will remain until recruitment is complete.
