In one week the students at the school collected and donated about 700 non-perishable food items to the Mission Possible campaign.
It is the biggest donation from any group or business as the campaign enters its final day.
The donation from Punchbowl Primary School has seen the food tally reach 10,376 – more than double the donation goal set six weeks ago.
At the school, student leaders Dylan Perkins and Ruby Monson drove the school campaign to secure donations.
Miss Monson said it was important the school get involved to help people less fortunate.
“It’s good to donate and give things to people so they have it too,” she said.
Mr Perkins said the whole school supported the drive to donate to Mission Possible.
“We went around and told all the classes we were going to do it and they started donating,” he said.
City Mission chief executive officer Stephen Brown said the Mission Possible drive had netted an “unprecedented” amount of donations in the organisation’s recent history.
“We’ve been overwhelmed with the response to the program which has been run in conjunction with Fairfax Media,” he said.
“It’s obvious people have captured the spirit and enthusiasm of what we were trying to achieve.”
But while the Mission Possible campaign ends, City Mission’s work goes on.
Mr Brown hoped people would continue the momentum as the organisation moved into its next appeal.
“We roll into our Winter Appeal now and whatever people give will make a difference in someone’s life,” he said.
In concluding the Mission Possible campaign, Mr Brown said City Mission was grateful to people who took the initiative to donate.
“The organisation is tremendously thankful for the support of our partners in Fairfax Media and really the community,” he said.
You can still make donations to any of City Mission’s retail stores.
