A practising artist who has had his work displayed multiple times at the gallery, Mr Eggins said he was looking forward to taking the site in a new direction.
“Every director has a way of leaving their mark, and I would like to see a lot more experimental artwork here,’ he said.
“I’d like to turn it into a place where people feel comfortable exhibiting work you would not be able to see at a more traditional gallery.
“They can have a high quality landscape portrait show if they want, or they can do a crazy live show if they want.”
There is no shortage of intriguing exhibits coming up at the gallery, with a mix of mainland and Tasmanian artists set to be displayed throughout June.
Mr Eggins said the action will continue into the second half of the year.
“We have a live performance coming up for an opening in September, and we have also just secured a giant sculpture for the July show,” he said.
“There are normally six or seven shows running at the same time and we have openings the first Friday of every month, so there is always a lot going on.”
