Devil State Derby League captain Megan O’Donnell-Bennetts said playing their own team will be quite a challenge.
“These are people you practise with all the time. They know all your tricks so there is no element of surprise. We feel it actually pushes you further when you play your own team members,” Mrs O’Donnell-Bennetts said.
Player Samara Digney, also known as Rambo Sambo, said the exciting thing about roller derby is the chaos it creates, with each person having their own alter-ego.
“Roller derby is for anyone, so you can be who you want to be and that name gives you a facade from the minute you put your helmet on,” she said.
Mrs O’Donnell-Bennetts said the club was like a family to her, because they were the first people she met in Australia. The game will run for about an hour, with food available for purchase. Adults $5, under five free.
