Between 20 and 50mm of rain is expected to fall in Launceston, with rain fall rates expected to pick up on Saturday afternoon.
Matthew Thomas from the Bureau of Meteorology said people should be aware of the system as it makes its way across the state.
“It’s a significant weather event, but not an exceptional one,” he said.

“There could be in excess of 80-100mm in the North West and North East Highlands areas, but it is nowhere near the level of rainfall that caused parts of the state to flood last year.”
The low pressure system is expected to travel across Victoria tomorrow after making its way from South Australia and through NSW earlier in the week.
Thomas said the conditions should subside on the Sunday.
“It won’t necessarily be a dry day, but the rainfall levels will have dropped significantly,” he said.
“Around 2-5mm of rain is expected to fall in the north throughout the day.”
A top of 17 degrees is forecast for Saturday, while Sunday is expected to reach 18 degrees.
