While governments are known to open up the hefty document to some pre-budget day teasers and announcements, this year the good news has not been able to be contained.
Premier Will Hodgman has already voiced the predictable mantra that it will be a balanced budget with record investments in the critical areas of schools, hospitals and infrastructure.
- $4 million to complete the new $12.1 million St Helens District Hospital.
- $3.4 million over four years to roll out body worn cameras for all frontline police officers.
- $1 million to create the 66 kilometres of mountainbike track south of St Helens as part of stage 2 of the expanded Blue Derby project.
- $250,000 to Speak Up Stay ChatTy suicide prevention program in schools.
- $16 million in additional funding for mental health.
- $20,000 First Home Builders Grant to be extended for another year.
- $4 million Jobs Action Package in partnership with TasCOSS and Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to help increase employment particularly in regional areas.
- $1.3 million in funding to complete works on the Channel Highway at Bonnet Hill and widen the edging for cyclists.
- $7 million to improve the section of road near East Tamar Highway and Mowbray Connector.
- $145,000 to trial Driving for Jobs program.
- $20 million for John L Grove Centre.
- $1.7 million over the next three years to Rural Alive and Well .
- $5 million investment in the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture for 2018-19.
- Capping power prices at 2.5 per cent for 2017-18, subject to the passing of legislation in the upper house.
- Extending funding for charity food vans.
