On Friday, the Hawks landed in Launceston with a new record to spruik: Tasmanian memberships hit an all time high.
With a record breaking 9370 members in the state, club president Richard Garvey said Launceston had truly become the club’s second home.
“We love having the entire city behind us,” he said. “Our club is incredibly grateful for the loyalty and support of the Hawthorn family in Tasmania.”
Mr Garvey said the club was extremely proud of its partnership with the apple isle. “I would like to sincerely thank every Tasmanian who has signed on in 2017.”
Earlier this week, the City of Launceston called on residents to send the AFL a message by attending Saturday’s match. Organisers are hoping more than 13,000 people will watch the Hawks take on the Lions at UTas Stadium at 1.45pm.
