The fire caused about $180,000 damage to the unit in New Street.
Tasmania Police were also at the scene and said early investigations indicated the fire was suspicious.
EARLIER:
A fire severely damaged a house in Invermay on Wednesday night.
The fire broke out in New Street about 7.05pm, engulfing most of the house before firefighters brought the blaze under control about 7.25pm.
A neighbour said the house had quickly gone up in flames.
“It was just a bit of flame and then we heard a bang so I looked out the window and told my (housemate) to call the fire brigade,” the neighbour said.
Two Tasmania Fire Service vehicles and one police vehicle attended the scene.
It is unclear how the fire started.
