Alderman Ted Sands has submitted a notice of motion which, if approved, would see the City of Launceston include the work in the upcoming budget discussions.
“The distortion factor in the dress circle is quite apparent and many patrons have complained that the diction of the singers and the volume of the music is distorted by the inadequate sound system that has been in place for 20 years,” he said in the meeting agenda.
“The previous quote was in the region of $425,000 but I believe 12 months later with new technology in sound equipment that price would be able to be reduced substantially.”
QVMGA director Richard Mulvaney said the replacement of the audio system at the Princess Theatre was listed for the 2017-18 capital works program.
“A sound engineer will be engaged to assess the requirements and take into consideration the special needs of the site,” he said.
