Invermay’s groovy STAR THEATRE is opening its doors for three days this Easter, before it undergoes a serious transformation. The theatre will be chucking on a bunch of films (including Spirited Away on Friday, and The Big Lebowski on Sunday), plus history and architecture talks, booze tastings events, and a Great Gatsby gala on Saturday night. Down south, Hobart band DARK MATTER OF STORYTELLING are back into the swing of things and releasing their newest single. Lack of Sleep signals a return for the band, after a two-year break. They will launch the single on Saturday night, from 8, at The Waratah Hotel in Hobart. Entry is $10, and support comes in the form of Jed Appleton Band, and more.
Looking ahead, tickets are still available for DWARVES in Hobart at the end of this month. The infamous US group are in the country for a run of shows and ensuing havoc. They’ll play the Brisbane Hotel on April 29, from 9pm. Joining them will be Victorian band Wolfpack, plus local supports from Ironhawk, and Bu$ Money. Tickets are available for $39.80 at Oztix.
It’s not too early to start planning your month of music for May. Especially when there are so many good gigs coming our way. DEAD LETTER CIRCUS this week announced a tour, which includes two Tassie dates. It’s a special accompaniment to their Re-Imagined tour, with the band saying “we felt the need to flex the heavier side of DLC so we've booked 4 exclusive shows to shake off the ambience and rock out”. Sounds promising. They’re playing Launceston’s Club 54 on May 6, and Hobart’s The Goods Shed on May 5. Tickets are on sale now through Oztix.
Launceston’s Greenwood Bar is set to host a bluesy double banger in May. BAD BEEF and DUBLO will invade the pub with their unique reggae-roots vibes. The show kicks off at 9pm, and entry is $15.
A quick reminder – THE SMITH STREET BAND are playing Hobart’s Odeon Theatre on May 25. Tickets for the all-ages show are on sale now through the band’s website.
