The ‘Living Table’ is a creative interpretation of the processes of art, food and drink through performance and practicality.
On Friday of artistic and community background experienced the ‘Living Table’, with Newstead students performing through the lunch, cooking, and serving the food.
Art, hospitality, cookery, photography and performance students all worked together to create a seamless and thoughtful performance in the courtyard of the Design Centre.
While their guests sat at a greenery-covered table, students in white and black uniforms performed artistic dance motions through the courtyard to serve each course of the meal from large open grills where cooking students prepared the fresh food.
The performance was inspired by Kirsha Kaechele’s exhibition Pro Paradox, which is currently on display in the Centre.
Pro Paradox incorporates food, textures and sound into a sinuous exhibition of colour and feeling.
The Newstead College presentation was developed in partnership with Beacon, MONA and the Design Centre and will be presented as a series of lunches open to the community in May.
