City of Launceston general manager Robert Dobrzynski said more than $2 million damage was done to council infrastructure, including damage to culverts, drains, bridge approaches, roads, fences, walkways and other infrastructure.
“Our main priority in the immediate aftermath of the floods was to ensure our infrastructure was safe. Our crews worked long hours to ensure roads and bridges were safe for everyday use until we could undertake complete repair works,” he said.
“We still have repair projects underway at various locations around the municipality and they will continue probably through until June or July.”
Mr Dobrzynski said said one of the main focuses had been reinforcing bridges to ensure those that were damaged in June are better able to withstand a similar weather event in future.
“We've reinforced foundations of many bridges, as well as used large pre-cast concrete blocks and other erosion prevention measures to try to reduce future flood impacts,” he said.
”We're undertaking the work as quickly as possible and we thank motorists for their patience when they encounter our crews out working on repair projects across the municipality.”
