Despite being given assurances he will see out the season - at least - in the wake of a 36-0 pounding at the hands of his former club Manly, his long-time foe Bennett can cast even further doubt on that when his Broncos ride into town.

And if history is any guide, Bennett would be thinking he is a very good chance to do so.

Statistics provided by Champion Data show Hasler's record against the other 15 NRL coaches is almost at its worst when he has taken on the wily Bennett while the supercoach had stints at the Broncos (twice), Dragons and Knights.

Hasler has won a paltry nine of 23 meetings against Bennett at just 39 per cent, a figure only better than his record against Cowboys boss Paul Green (zero from four) and premiership-winning Roosters clipboard carrier Trent Robinson (three from 10).

The 56-year-old has a winning record against every other NRL coach who started the season.

The Bennett factor won't provide comfort to Bulldogs fans searching for a shred of good news as the blowtorch turns on the family club after an underwhelming 1-3 start to the season and boardroom turmoil over summer.

Bulldogs chief executive Raelene Castle got on the front foot on Tuesday when she said Hasler would see out the remainder of his deal as Canterbury powerbrokers mull a two-year extension for the man who has taken them to two grand finals since arriving at Belmore.

Hasler again stressed it would only be a matter of time before his future beyond 2017 would be sorted as he deflected questions at his weekly media conference before the clash against the Broncos at ANZ Stadium on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs board is due to meet at Olympic Park for its regular meeting that night.

"We're working through that and hopefully have it ratified pretty soon," Hasler said.

"The board have been really supportive over my tenure. We're very well resourced here. We've just got to win some footy games.

"I've been here five years and put a lot of hard work, as have others, into the club. And built quite a good outfit here. I definitely want to stay here."

Hasler has handed a debut to halfback Matt Frawley to cover the suspended Moses Mbye, who struggled through the second half of last season.

But Hasler is not interested in last season's fade-out or their limp beginning to 2017.

"It's a pretty boring stat and it's one that's thrown up all the time," he said. "We just lost our way with possession at the end of last year. But that's last year, I think that's been done to death."

While Hasler swatted away claims the board meeting would be a distraction for his players, Kiwi international Greg Eastwood admitted the general unrest had been a slight concern for the squad.

"It is a little bit," Eastwood said. "But for us players we need to make sure we turn up and win games and fight for the whole 80 [minutes].

"We spoke about it and need to focus on our footy and not focus on what's going on outside of that. We'll let the Bulldogs and that come up with an agreement and sort that out themselves.

"He's [Hasler's] aware of what is going on. He let us know that we can focus on winning games and we're trying to do that. That starts today. It's a short turnaround and good in a way to rectify what happened on Saturday. The boys are ready to go against Brisbane."
