A park in Railton is opening on Thursday, providing basic facilities for members of the CMCA to park their vans in non-powered sites.
“The Railton park will be a perfect opportunity for us to see how it’s going to work in this environment,” CMCA chief executive Richard Barwick said.
“We believe that we’ve got a great opportunity here to tap into a market which is not met by the commercial sector, and I say that with sincerity: this market does not affect caravan parks.”
Mr Barwick said the CMCA’s system is designed to provide basic facilities for brief stays for the self-contained campervans, and that anyone seeking facilities such as powered sites, showers and more amenities will need to go to a caravan park.
He said the CMCA is in negotiations with several councils to develop four or five new parks around the state over the next few years.
