The Perth six-piece released their seventh studio record Close Your Eyes and See earlier this month, marking their first release since a best-of compilation in 2009 and their first new music since 2003.
Speaking ahead of the band’s show at Hobart’s Republic Bar, bassist and founding member Phil Kakulas said the time had been right to record another Susans album.
“I had this group of songs that just had Susans written all over them; they were demanding of me that I get the group together to record them, so I did what I was told and these were the results,” Kakulas said.
“The songs came together relatively quickly and easily once we made the decision to make another album.”
Despite an eight-year gap since the last Blackeyed Susans tour, Kakulas says the band’s catalogue was still fresh in the mind.
“There's a certain muscle memory, some of those songs I think are just imprinted on our brains now like Smokin’ Johnny Cash and that kind of thing, but we still get together to rehearse and the new songs are sounding really good.
“It was sounding really sweet (in rehearsals) last week and I'm really looking forward to bringing it down to Tassie.”
The Blackeyed Susans will play alongside JP Shilo at Republic Bar at 9.30pm Saturday April 1.
