A 24-year-old New Town man has been charged with aggravated burglary, stealing, and a string of driving related offences as a result.
The man allegedly entered the Sandy Bay home while the owners were asleep, and stole the keys to the car.
Police located the expensive Aston Martin, reportedly in perfect condition, later the same day in Moonah, following information received from members of the public.
“In this instance we are fortunate to have been able to recover the vehicle in a timely manner,” Detective Acting Inspector Penny Reardon said.
“We would, however, like to reiterate the importance of home and vehicle security.
“When possible, your home should be locked and secured at night, even when you are at home, and all valuables should be stored out of sight, including handbags, car keys and wallets.
“The easy-get is a handbag, wallet or set of keys sitting in plain view of a window or door and that is what would-be thieves are looking for.”
Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour or the movements of the Aston Martin in the early hours of Sunday morning is asked to contact Crime Stoppers by phone on 1800 333 000, or online at crimestopperstas.com.au.
