An erosion protection project at the Punchbowl Reserve will see the construction of four rock weirs in the Kings Meadows Rivulet, which runs through the popular recreational area.

More than 1100 tonnes of rock has been transported to the reserve for the construction, which will drop the level of water by one metre at each of the four weirs and create larger sections of slower moving water during high flow rainfall events.
Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten said the project was important for the amenity of the rivulet.
“This project will allow us to protect the banks of the rivulet and reduce the amount of erosion that we are currently seeing,” he said.
“There has been significant planning regarding the work approaches to be used to allow work within the rivulet whilst minimising impacts on well-established vegetation on the banks. We believe it's a good balance between environmental values and managing the amenity of the reserve for future generations.”
Slower moving water is expected to reduce the erosion after heavy rainfall.
