The three incorrect awards were all in the physical theatre category. An audit of the other categories confirmed the remaining 36 awards were correct.
The correct winners were:
Best Production: Trash This Place, DRILL.
Best Choreography: Caitlin Comerford, Face Value: Convergence, Stompin
Best Design – Set, Costume, Sound, Lighting, Video or Film: Siobhain Gearney, Sound and Lighting Design, Trash This Place, DRILL.
“We deeply regret the mistakes made in this year’s Awards, and cannot apologise enough to everyone affected by this,” TCT president Peter Sexton said.
“This is the first time an error like this has occurred, but the board has already discussed the need to improve the robustness of our system for documenting and finalising the results for future awards, which will include the involvement of a certified accountant to oversee the process”.
The council said the mistakes were due to an “administrative error” that was “in no way” an error of the judging panel.
All companies and winners involved have been contacted.
“We would like to acknowledge the incredible understanding displayed by the nominated companies involved, which re-enforces the camaraderie that exists within the Tasmanian Physical Theatre sector,” Dr Sexton said.
