The state’s sixth annual Black Dog Ride will leave the Campbell Town War Memorial Oval at 11.30am and is expected to see several hundred riders don leathers to combat depression. 

Having raised nearly $14,000 for the cause over the last two years, Northern motorcycle group Bikie Bitches are again expected to contribute a significant portion of the day’s fundraising tally. 

Group founder Rayleen Glover said much of her team’s fundraising efforts had taken place in the state’s North-East. 

“What excites me is that towns like Bridport and Scottsdale all pull together for this big time and I find it very touching that they really rally around Black Dog,” Mrs Glover said. 

“We put a raffle on at the Bridport Hotel each time we have Black Dog and we've made $1000 from it this year, every one of the locals (donated) vouchers.

“The money stays in Tassie and that’s what I love, that’s amazing for me and it makes me work a bit harder.”

Black Dog Ride state coordinator Betty Parssey said the event had gone from strength to strength since starting in Tasmania. 

“We're looking at really good numbers this year from the amount of people who have already registered online, which is absolutely wonderful because we normally almost double that with on-the-day registrations,” Mrs Parssey said. 

“So hopefully we'll be looking at 250 people.”

Same-day registrations will be open until 11am and are $40 per rider and $20 per pillion passenger. 

“At the Campbell Town end where we assemble they’ll do the food and they’ll have a coffee van there again.

“Lifeline will be (at Bicheno) to provide a barbecue and there'll be a nice coffee van there as well - we're hoping people will stop for a little while and hopefully there'll be members of the public there to greet and chat and just see what's going on.”
