Education and training Minister Jeremy Rockliff congratulated the award winners for their “talent and dedication to their training”.
“Tonight’s TasTAFE Student Excellence Awards in Hobart show there is a brighter future for our next generation of employees, and highlight the best and brightest in the State,” he said.
“I would personally like to congratulate Jai North, winner of the Minister for Education and Training’s Award as the overall TasTAFE Student of the Year, chosen from winners across 20 award categories.
“Jai is a 22 year old North-West butcher and small business owner, completing a Certificate III in Meat Processing (Retail Butcher) at TasTAFE.”
Liberal Member for Bass Sarah Courtney said the awards were “a great way to celebrate students”.
“I would like to congratulate the six Northern winners who took out Industry Achievement Awards, and wish them all the best for their future in the workforce,” Ms Courtney said.
TasTAFE Student Excellence Award winners from the north of the state are:
Bell Bay Aluminium Metal Trades Award: Ben Wells (Birralee) - Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication
TACC Automotive Award: Bray Austin (Launceston) - Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology
Mercury Walch Creative Industries Award: Natulka Wade (Newstead) - Diploma of Screen and Media
Schwarzkopf Hair and Beauty Award: Kendall Shaw (Riverside) - Certificate III in Beauty Services
AMCA Plumbing and Refrigeration Award: Luke Wakefield (Relbia) - Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
Primary Employers Tasmania Primary Industries and Science Award: Dean Hughes (Swan Bay) - Certificate IV in Food Processing
