Held at Waverley Lake Park at 10am, the race will see a fleet of homemade vessels paddle their way from the start to the finish line in an old-fashioned battle of cardboard boat buoyancy.
Regatta chairwoman Sandy Astill said that with the help of Tasmanian entrepreneur Dick Smith, who will match all funds raised for the campaign dollar-for-dollar, the Rotary club hoped to purchase three insulin pumps over the next 18 months.
“The pumps are very expensive, they’re about $9500 each and unless the family has private health cover they have to find that money themselves,” Mrs Astill said.
“At the moment there are about 200 kids that can't afford a pump and these pumps change their life completely.”
