The Burnie-born 35-year-old was among several national appointments announced by Hockey Australia as it builds towards the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Guest had been an assistant coach and analyst with the men’s team since 2014.
He played 103 international games for Australia, winning a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, before moving into coaching in 2011. Since then he has acquired an extensive background in coaching and performance analysis, through time with both national teams, as an analyst at the Fremantle Dockers and working for WAIS and NSWIS.
In 2013, he was inducted into the Tasmanian Institute of Sport champions club for “athletes who have made a significant contribution to the development of elite sport in Tasmania”.
Joining Guest will be former Hockeyroo and Australian selector Nicole Arrold.
Hockeyroos head coach Paul Gaudoin said: “The recruitment process was tough, but we have come away with two experienced hockey professionals who will add depth and experience to the Hockeyroos program as we look to build a strong and versatile team heading towards the Gold Coast next year and Tokyo 2020.”
