Held at Peppers in Launceston, the finals saw Miss Laskey and Hobart 18-year-old Kimberley Jones impress in the evening wear and questionnaire categories to qualify as the state’s two representatives for the national titles.
Miss Laskey said she would begin preparing for the finals, which will be held in Melbourne in June, as soon as possible.
“There's so many beautiful girls, I thought I didn't have a chance but I’m so excited,” Miss Laskey said.
“We have a lot of preparation ahead of us.”
Launceston-born actress and state finals celebrity judge Kate Neilson said Tasmania had produced some exceptional contestants in recent years.
“The girls were very high quality so it does tend to get a bit hard with judging when it comes down to evening wear and questionnaire,” Neilson said.
“Personality is the number one thing that we're looking for, but some girls can answer questions better than others and some girls can pull off an evening dress better than others, so you've got to weigh up what's more important.”
