The 27-year-old Australian Maritime College student has taken 17 first-grade wickets for the Shamrocks this season with a career best 5-32 coming in the first innings against South Launceston last Saturday.
Kooran, known for his outswing, said he is enjoying his cricket.
“I used to play when I was back home in Bombay (Mumbai) but I had quite a break before I came here… I have been in Tasmania one year in February,” he said.
“I started at ACL Cricket Club first and I didn’t know about turf cricket until some of my friends told me, so I met with Dane Anderson (Westbury coach) and he got me along.”
Kooran said cricket was far more relaxing here than it was in the sub-continent.
“My plan is to go to Hobart and play in the Premier League next year,” he said.
“I’m working on an inswinger but at the moment I am not able to due to a lack of practice with uni and work.”
