Tasmanians Helping Tasmanians Facebook page founder Michael Singline approached St Giles and has established the toy drive to replenish St Giles’ toy library, which loans toys, puzzles and games to disabled children.
“It means we can hopefully have people donate modern contemporary games and toys to compliment [what] we already have,” St Giles toy library co-ordinator Sue Medcraft said.
The library needs appropriate toys, such as switch-adapted toys.
Mr Singline was inspired by the work St Giles does.
“It’s just ordinary people doing extraordinary things and that’s pretty cool and makes me want to go as hard as I can and to raise ... as many toys as I can,” he said.
Mr Singline started the page in November to provide a place for people to ask for and offer help.
“Leading up to Christmas was beyond overwhelming, the support that everybody had showed not only myself but strangers out there that they've never met before is incredible,” Mr Singline said.
The toys will be donated at an event on February 10 at St Giles. For more information visit www.facebook.com/tasmanianshelpingtasmanians.
