Backstroke specialist Burleigh, 24, who grew up in East Launceston, announced her retirement from the sport last June.
She will pass on insights at the Swimming Tasmania-organised clinic that saw her become the state’s female swimmer of the year five years running, set 141 state records and compete in every national age and open short course meet over a decade.
Burleigh competed in every Australian state plus China, the US and Qatar.
She trained with the now defunct Northern Suburbs swim club followed by South Esk and Riverside, and was a Tasmanian Institute of Sport scholarship holder before moving to Nunawading in November 2011. Last year she completed a degree in exercise and sport science at Deakin University.
The clinic is for junior excellence-qualified swimmers and costs $10 to attend. Burleigh will lead a land-based session followed by a pool session focusing on dives and streamlining. Entries are limited and swimmers are urged to register quickly through the Swimming Tasmania website.
On time
TIME trials in Launceston on January 21 and Hobart on January 28 are the final chances for athletes to get valuable race practice before the state sprint and relay championships in Launceston on February 4 and 5. Entries for the championships close on January 22.
The Tasmanian age, open and 11 and under championships take place over four days in Hobart, starting on March 10.
Making waves
The Tasmanian ocean swim series continues to attract large fields in its popular summer series at beaches around Tasmania.
These have included Port Sorell and Bridport over recent weeks.
Coming up are three big swims over ten days.
Events are scheduled at Kingston Beach on Australia Day, beautiful Boat Harbour on January 28 and Burnie on February 5.
