Combining a Show and Shine spectacular, a timed racing competition and a healthy dose of spectator involvement, the classic will be held on March 12 and will see cars rally from all corners of the state to participate in the proceedings.

​Event director Stuart Benson said organisers had already received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from car owners. 

“We've already had some fantastic interest in the event with a number of car collectors wanting to become involved,” Mr Benson said. 

“There's some guys from the North-West coast with a really extensive collection of Holdens and so on, there's a number of Italian Car Club members who are really keen to get involved and there's a whole number of sports cars as well.”

Mr Benson said the new event had partially evolved from a growing desire from Ross residents to see Targa Tasmania return to the town. 

“From my time managing Targa Tasmania I was aware there was always a very high level of enthusiasm for the old Ross Targa stage that was made up of some of the roads around Ross.

“They've been keen to try and get the Targa event back in town for about 10 years now, and this is providing the motivation for people to get some really neat cars out of the garage and show them to the people instead of hiding them away in a shed.”
