All eligible homes are now finished, under construction or in advanced planning.
During 2016, approximately 76,000 premises in Tasmania were added, taking the total of connected homes to around 192,000, or approximately 72 per cent of the state.
Construction occurred this year in parts of Hobart, Launceston, Evandale, Devonport, Burnie, Ulverstone, Penguin, Westbury, Tranmere, Howrah, Bicheno, Cambridge, Dodges Ferry, Exeter, Campbell Town and New Norfolk.
Tasmania has the highest signup rate for the NBN out of all the states in Australia.
The NBN has also continued to roll out fixed wireless coverage via a string of towers in regional areas.
In 2016, they’ve also launched their Sky MusterTM satellite service – which provided access to fast broadband to remote and isolated Tasmanian premises, including Flinders Island.
The construction effort is part of the NBN’s goal of connecting eight million premises to the network by 2020.
NBN corporate affairs state manager Russell Kelly said one of the year’s highlights was finishing the rollout in Launceston, making the city 100 per cent ready for service.
“Hobart is now around 90 per cent ready for service, and NBN crews are now working solidly in many parts of the North West Coast,” he said.
