In a Facebook post Nicole Davey said the act of “uninspired vandalism” was a testament to the “ignorance and lack of imagination” of those responsible.
Ms Davey told Fairfax Tasmania she saw a number of smaller tags as she walked up the shady side of the track.
“As I got closer, I was disappointed to see how far spread the damage was,” she said.
A regular to the Gorge, Ms Davey said it saddened her to see a small group of people committing such thoughtless acts in such a beautiful spot.
“While the paint can be covered, the rock can never really be restored to the way it was,” she said.
Anyone with information regarding the graffiti should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
