It’s all mistletoe and corny festive jokes as Fresh Comedy celebrates Christmas with DAVE THORNTON. The monthly comedy night is saying farewell to 2016 with the Fresh Comedy Christmas Extravaganza on Friday night. Thornton will be joined by Rachel Berger, Chris Franklin, and Emergency Poncho. Tickets for the event are on sale now through Trybooking.com for $20. It will be at the Royal Oak in Launceston, from 7.30pm.
THE EMBERS are taking over the Saint John Craft Beer barrel room on Saturday night. The Launceston big band will be doing two sets – some old, and some new. They’ll be joined by Jesse Higgs as the opening act. The show starts at 8.30pm, and entry is $10. Capacity for the show is limited.
Launceston’s Royal Oak is hosting a big night of original music on Saturday. The show will be spearheaded by Hobart’s SQUID FISHING and Launceston’s CAPE GRIM. Plus, you can hear from This Is A Robbery, Disrepute, and Sydney-siders Operation Ibis. The show starts at 8.30pm in The Boatshed. Entry is $5.
Across on the North West Coast, THE WOLFE BROTHERS are set to play a show at Burnie. The Tassie boys have earned themselves a solid reputation for fun live sets. You can see them at The Butter Factory on Saturday, from 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale now through Oztix for $28.60.
Have you got New Year’s Eve plans yet? No? Never fear – Royal Eve is here. Nearly. Vibestown (the guys behind Party in the Paddock) have taken over Launceston’s New Year’s Eve entertainment. This year, the city will ring in 2017 with BLUE KING BROWN, Willow Beats, and more. The event starts at 4pm, on December 31, duh. Tickets are on sale now at Oztix, for $25 for general admission, and $75 for family passes.
And for those who are looking to start 2017 with a bang, there’s the Museum of Old and New Art’s Don’t Waste New Year’s Day Party. The day will sprawl through five bands – headlined by TRUE LIVE – on Mona’s picturesque lawns. Early bird tickets are on sale now for $38.50 through Mona.net.au
