The national soccer competition has voiced its desire to expand from 10 to 12 teams with Tasmania one of 10 regions to express an interest in joining the league.
Palmer said Football Federation Australia intends to run a formal tender process early next year and decide on two teams for 2018.
“Our consortium has done well by jumping the gun and achieving a strong profile,” he said. “It is an excellent strategy; but now they will simply have to wait [until] FFA unveils the terms and conditions of participation.”
A-League head Greg O’Rourke said the desired expansion is likely to follow a new broadcast deal and could extend beyond 12 clubs.
The Examiner understands the Tasmanian consortium has been in the state this week and remains confident it will feature in an expanded A-League.
