A parent being proactive rather than reative is much more suitable.
It is called good parenting.
Rod Tuck, Katoomba.
Drinking
FRIDAY’S paper had three full-page ads and 4 x 1/2 page ads for liquor outlets, equivalent to almost 10 per cent of the paper (5 pages in 52).
The front-page story stated that Launceston has Tasmania’s highest rate of people over 15 who drink to risky levels.
Any connection? Dan Murphy obviously knows a good thing.
Margaret Hosford, Windermere.
Cartoons
The government is always fair game for the cartoonists and with the present crop of representatives what a rich vein into which they can tap (The Examiner, November 20). Must be difficult to chose between Turnbull or Trump for blunder of the day.
A Carter, Mowbray.
Pet rescue
THANK YOU, thank you, thank you to the extremely kind hearted gentleman who rescued out precious Yorkshire Terrier approximately eight kilometers from Launceston and took her to the Longford Council. We truly appreciate your kindness and words cannot express our gratitude.
Michael and Ann, Burnie.
Refugees
LAST year the Department of Social Security released a survey "Building a New Life in Australia".
In it they document more than 90 per cent of approved refugees in Australia are on welfare, 40 per cent do not understand or speak English, 15 per cent had never attended a school and almost 50 per cent admit to never having a job in their lives.
Malcolm Turnbull should explain to each and every one of us just how these 'refugees', of whom we are expected to embrace in the tens of thousands, are going to help us Advance Australia Fair.
Jack Sonnemann, Lucaston.
