Queechy High School crowned 2016 Tasmanian senior boys basketball champions

Queechy High has won the battle of the unbeaten school sides to be crowned the 2016 Tasmanian senior boys division basketball champion.

The Norwood school outlasted tournament rival New Town High, of Hobart, to set up a 53-44 victory in the State High School Championships at the Elphin Sports Centre on Sunday.

But Riverside High fell 47-39 to a slick St Brendan-Shaw College Devonport in the junior boys final.

Sacred Heart College Hobart earned a title for the south in the senior girls division, proving too strong for Wynyard High in a 52-42 win.

St Brendan-Shaw College earlier on Sunday made it two from two in the junior girls finals.

Launceston Church Grammar struggled to keep in touch with the Devonport school during a 46-35 loss.

The State High School Championships over the weekend was contested between 34 teams in Tasmania that played 74 games, which included 12 finals.
