A planning application was put forward to amend the George Town Interim Planning Scheme which, if approved, would alter wording within the Rural Resource Zone to allow for a future wind farm development at Low Head to be submitted to the council.
The council agenda stated that a wind farm with up to 10 turbines on specific titles would have significant visual impact on the landscape and would be visible from a variety of locations due to its height and prominence.
“The proposal has also sought to mitigate potential impacts on existing residences within the Rural Resource Zone, through turbine setbacks and the proposed layout plan for future turbines,” the agenda said.
“From an economic perspective, it is expected that a wind farm would have a positive impact.”
