Lyons MP Brian Mitchell has continued to pressure the federal government to expedite a decision to help fund the $1.2 million repair of the Beaconsfield mine yard.

In federal parliament he said: “I was very disappointed that the Prime Minister did not take the opportunity while he visited Tasmania at the weekend to announce funding for this very important project.”
Senator Jonathon Duniam said Mr Mitchell’s statements were an echo of the hollow promises he provided three weeks after the issue was first reported.
“Since the state government made its application for funding under the National Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangement I have been in regular contact with my federal colleagues to progress the submission as quickly as possible,” he said.
“As recently as [Thursday] I have spoken to the Prime Minister’s and Minister Keenan’s offices, both of which will be involved in the NDRRA funding decision.”
