The 21-year-old from Burnie, who managed just two games this season, was one of three Tasmanians cut from AFL lists on Friday with first list lodgements due Monday.
Glenorchy’s Zac Webster at Hawthorn and North Hobart’s Henry Schade at Gold Coast were also told their time at their respective clubs was over.
Templeton played 14 games for the Saints and Schade 20 for the Suns.
Webster failed to play a senior game.
Schade joins teammate Luke Russell, of Burnie, in departing Gold Coast.
Other Tasmanians delisted include Josh Green, Josh Watts and Josh McGuinness at Brisbane, Brady Grey at Fremantle and Nathan Grima at Essendon.
Grey is training with the Dockers in the hope of getting redrafted.
Green has been linked with Essendon.
