The 26-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is also facing serious family violence offences and was arrested by detectives in Cairns on Wednesday.
The rape allegation is linked to a serious family violence incident at a Chigwell home, in the state’s South, on July 18.
Tasmania Police issued a warrant for the man’s arrest and Glenorchy CIB detectives flew to Cairns to extradite the man on Thursday.
The man, who fronted the Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday, is also charged with several other crimes including failing to appear at the Hobart Supreme Court on unrelated matters.
The Tasmanian detectives will return to Hobart airport with the man on Friday night.
The man will remain in custody and is due to appear before a Tasmanian Justice of the Peace on Saturday.
