Detectives want to speak to a 178 centimetre tall white man in his early 20s, who was picked up by someone in a white Kia just after 4.30am.
Police are still trying to determine how the black Great Wall SUV ended up in the yard.
No one was hurt during the ordeal, but the car burst into flames after flipping onto its roof.
Police would also like to know why there were no number plates on the vehicle when police arrived.
A witness reported the registration number to police, but the plates had not been recovered on Wednesday afternoon.
The vehicle was not reported stolen.
At the scene, neighbours reported being woken up to a loud bang.
One man described seeing a “fireball” from 400 metres away.
“I was sleeping but the explosion woke me up, everyone would’ve heard it,” Dilini Medawaththe said.
