After it was washed out last weekend, FIESTA ON GEORGE is set to take place this Saturday – fingers crossed. It’s got a stellar music program to match the food and wine and shopping on offer, stacked with Northern Tasmanian musicians. Melbourne guitar aficionado MATTHEW FAGAN is set to open the music stage at 1pm, and acts like S&M, WELL STRUNG, and BAD DAD ORCHESTRA take it from afternoon to evening. The whole event runs from noon to 9pm in Launceston’s George Street. Entry is free.
Fresh Comedy’s mega fifth birthday celebrations are on this weekend. The FRESH COMEDY GALA will be held at Launceston’s Princess Theatre on Saturday night from 8pm. Helping to blow out the birthday candles are Luke McGregor, Matt Okine, and Randy the Puppet. There’s also a tonne of Tassie talent in Gavin Baskerville, Kerri Gay, Emergency Poncho, Tracey Cosgrove, Tim Logan, and Ned Townsend. Tickets are available through Theatre North, in person, via phone, or online.
After the gala, headliner MATT OKINE is taking to the DJ decks across the road at the Royal Oak Hotel. He’ll be joined on the after party line-up by Bennylava, Menz, and Chill Behaviour. It kicks off at 10.30pm. Tickets are available from trybooking.com/MOJP, or try your luck on the door for $15.
Saturday is set to be a weird old night at Hobart’s Brisbane Hotel. The JACKASS SEPPO TOUR is making its way to the venue. The show will feature jokes, stunts, stories and general stupidity from Jackass stars Wee-Man, Preston Lacy, Party Boy (Chris Pontious) and Dave England. The show starts at 7pm and tickets are available through Oztix for $75.50.
Australian punk icons FRENZAL RHOMB will be in the state in less than a month. On their 25th anniversary tour, the band is doing purely “by request” shows across the country. You can catch them in Launceston at Club 54 on November 18, and the following night in Hobart at the Brisbane Hotel. Tickets for both shows are still available through Oztix for $34.70.
