The Break O’Day Council has approved the development of a standing campsite at Mount William National Park, which will include six individual unserviced twin-share sleeping huts to be accessed by elevated timber boardwalks.

The project is part of a larger proposal from the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania for a premium guided walk from wukalina/Mount William along the coast to larapuna/Eddystone Point.
Break O’Day mayor Mick Tucker said the visitor accommodation, which will be built in a National Park, would be extremely low impact on the environment.
“It’s based on the opportunity of being able to carry all the materials in to build and install,” he said.
It’s an absolutely beautiful walk and it would encourage more people.

“It will create a nice piece of infrastructure that will allow people doing the walk to get out of the elements in a bit of comfort in a free-standing environment.”
Councillor Tucker said the council had made a “common sense decision.”
“It’s an absolutely beautiful walk and it would encourage more people because it gives opportunity to be able to relax at the end of the day with a small amount of extra comfort than what they would have in a tent,” he said.
“Nobody wants to see things all locked up.”
