The state’s top young Laser sailors headed north to Burnie for the annual Ice Breaker Regatta and PDYC sailors were on the podium in the Radial class. Josh Jones had line honours in Wind Whisperer on seven points with Josh Harriss second on eight points in High Voltage. Ryan Moreton and Tom Cooper from Tamar Yacht Club finished fifth and sixth respectively.

Northern dinghy sailors again dominated the sabot and laser divisions at the Tasmanian Sabot Sailing Association’s inter-club regatta hosted by PDYC. The club’s young sailors put on a great display of emerging talent and claimed the top four places. Ruby Edmunds in Not Today took first, Sam Jones in Crude Oil was one point behind in second, and Taylor Edmunds crossed third. In the Junior division, Elysha and Liam Jones mixed it up with the seniors to win in 2HT2TCH.
Sunday October 23 is National Discover Sailing Day. This great initiative by Australian Sailing, is run by individual accredited yacht clubs around Australia. TYC, Deviot, and PDYC will all host events to connect with the community and show how fun and accessible sailing is for people of all ages and abilities. Deviot and PDYC will have a variety of sailing vessels available for people to try between 10am-4pm while Tamar Yacht Club will sail out of the Seaport Marina’s public pontoon (opposite Mud Restaurant) from 4:30pm-6pm and everyone is welcome to join a leisurely afternoon sail on the safe and stable keelboats. No bookings are required and all safety equipment is provided by the clubs.
