Career-best figures for Tasmanian cricketer Kristen Beams

Tasmania’s liking for Sri Lanka’s Rangiri Dambulla Stadium continued with Kristen Beams taking career-best figures to help Australia qualify for next year’s World Cup.

The 31-year-old Exeter leg-spinner’s 4-15 including five maidens and a strike-rate of just 1.50 ensured the home side fell 78 runs short of the Southern Stars’ 8-254.

The win sees Australia move three games clear on top of the ICC ODI championship table.

Beams also claimed 3-16 in the opening win after fellow NTCA graduate George Bailey scored 160 runs in two victories at the same venue last month.

Cricket Australia’s website reported that Beams was “far and away the pick of the bowlers” “sending down “10 overs of bamboozling and consistent leg spin”.
