Mr Sudmalis has extensive experience, including a decade working at the Australian Council for the Arts.
He continues to practice as a performer and composer. Mr Sudmalis will take on the position at the end of September.
Minister for Arts Vanessa Goodwin welcomed Mr Sudmalis to the role and the experience he brings.
