The expansion will include Brisbane Court, Centre Way Lane, Dicky Whites Lane and Claytons Lane.
Smoking is already prohibited at the Brisbane Street Mall, Quadrant Mall and the two bus interchange areas at St John Street.
Community consultation found the majority of people want to see more enforcement of the smoke-free zones in the form of education, patrols and infringements.
Some members of the public also felt that the current pavement signage is neither sufficient nor effective and improved signage is being designed.
The council will also increase the number of butt bins to help alleviate cigarette butt littering.
The cost for new signage, bins and education is estimated at $8700, with $7000 for bins, $700 for signage and $1000 for education.
