The state has had 441 confirmed flu cases in 2016 with 286 of those recorded last month.
Almost two-thirds were reported in the South, with 83 (18 per cent) in the North and 72 (16 per cent) in the North-West.
Influenza A, the virus capable of infecting animals and sometimes hosted by wild birds, was the most common strain.
