Saturday will be the first of ongoing weekend KinderGym sessions, giving parents who work a chance to attend. KinderGym coach Pip Hedley said the classes, “aim to help zero to five year olds in developing gross motor skills, spatial awareness, confidence and social skills".
The club is also seeking expressions of interest for the gym class for autistic children, which is being developed in conjunction with specialist services.
The classes will work on the foundation of existing KinderGym classes, with additional early intervention exercises. They will also provide a social support for the families.
“We do know that the research shows that if you can do some of the early intervention exercises by the time the kids are hitting school their social skills are improved, the way that they’re viewing the world et cetera are improved,” Launceston PCYC club manager Kath Hawkins said.
