The 18-year-old Blizzard was invited to live and train with the Queensland boxing team in Noosa and took up the opportunity with the blessing of his former coach Craig Woods at the Latrobe Boxing Club.
He is training with Mark Evans at the Impact Boxing Club along with a dozen or so fighters.
“I’ve only been up here three months - I made the move to better my boxing and it’s been unreal,” Blizzard said.
“I had a successful weekend securing a spot in the Queensland team to represent Australia in Ireland in the next two weeks.
“There will be three tournaments over there and the main one is called the Celtic Cup – and there are seven or eight going from Queensland.”
Blizzard hasn’t forgotten his Tasmanian roots though also winning his 52-kilogram class fight in the Golden Gloves tournament last Saturday night representing his home state.
“I fought a New Zealander and I thought I had a really good performance in the first couple of rounds and was able to finish it in the third,” he said.
Blizzard said he is looking forward to being part of the Daniel Geale-Renold Quinlan IBO super middleweight fight night at the Silverdome on October 14.
“It’s a great honour to be invited and I can’t wait to come back home and I’m pretty proud to represent the sponsors I’ve got.
“Finance Brokers of Tasmania especially support me and pay for me and without them I wouldn’t be able to live up here in Queensland.
“I am working up here but it is mainly full-time boxing – I’m planning to stick around in Queensland and try to make a Commonwealth or Olympic Games team but in saying that I will always be representing Tasmania.”
Blizzard said he had his sights set on the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
“It depends on how that goes and then maybe turn professional down the line.”
